In this pivotal role you will be responsible for underwriting all Life, TPD, Trauma and IP/SCI risks for Retail and Group Insurance within established underwriting authority and will make the most of your life underwriting knowledge and experience by providing support to more junior members of the team.
To be considered for this role you will have 3-5 years experience in underwriting retail and/or group life insurances and will hold at least mid-level authorities.
You will also have demonstrated commercial and industry awareness and the ability to professionally communicate with advisors / brokers whilst developing new relationships and enhancing existing relationships. Our client is an established Insurance Company who is seeking a Underwriter with a minimum of 12 months experience. Assisting with the Business Development team, you will contribute towards providing an efficient service to Brokers and assist in the underwriting and support to the new business team.
The role requires having an eye for detail, being thorough and organised together with having very good communication and rapport skills to enhance Broker relationships. The teams are very friendly and promote excellent team spirit. Training is provided by the Underwriting Manager and you should be self disciplined as you will perform these duties with minimum supervision. Having good common sense and initiative is important.
You should have a minimum of 1 years’ experience handling claims and ideally gained from the Motor sector however other product areas will be considered from within a Claims environment. Being self confident and being pro-active, emphasis is on dealing with Clients directly and not via Brokers or Intermediaries.
In this role your accountabilities will be:
• Analyze first report of claim, determine nature of loss
• Conduct relevant investigation, secure and file all supporting documentations
• Establish accurate and timely reserves
• Seek technical assistance in handling claims that exceed authority
• Maintain an active diary
• Meet with appropriate parties to resolve issues
• Adhere to insurance contracts acts or relevant regulations.
To be successful, it is envisaged that you have a proven track record in either managing a portfolio of claims or have come from a legal back ground with two years Commercial / experience. In this role, you will manage a portfolio of Commercial Property Claims covering ISR, accident, travel, builders insurance, contract works, storm damage, etc. This is a “hands on” role and your priority will be to manage a broad portfolio while maintaining client goodwill and achieving the company’s service objectives.
Your key accountabilities will be:
Manage claims from lodgement to closure
In negotiation with your Team Leader, manage the more complex and technical claims
Appoint adjusters and other service providers as required
Issue instructions to legal advisers and respond to enquiries from such advisers
Maintain up-to-date files and provide internal reporting to appropriate contacts.
You will demonstrate
2-3 years Commercial property claims experience
Ability to work effectively under pressure
Computer literacy, preferably with Microsoft Word and basic keyboard skills
A friendly and helpful disposition with the capacity to mentor staff as required
Understand the importance of commitment, reliability and be self motivated
Well developed negotiation and communication skills
You’ve proven your ability in marketing life insurance products. You can develop effective business plans to
drive results and want to be key member of a team that provides life insurance product & sales strategy support to a network of financial security advisors.
You have competent knowledge of life insurance products, tools and sales concepts. You also have an understanding of general tax & estate planning principles related to life insurance solutions. You know the financial services industry and applicable legislation. You are an excellent communicator with well developed inter-personal skills. You have effective sales skills and the ability to provide case consultations and participate in joint field work with advisors when required.
You have a university degree, a minimum of three years’ experience in the financial services/life insurance industry, and either hold, or are pursuing, valid insurance and related industry designations,
