Items to bring with you

Remember to bring the following:
Driving Licence - some nationalities can drive in Dubai with a driving licence from your home country. Passport photos - (as you need these for every administrative procedure from getting a PO Box to getting a visa) You can get these done in Dubai but it saves time if you have them already. Keep about 8 in your wallet until you complete all necessary procedures. Adaptors - Dubai wall sockets have 3-pins but many appliances you buy in the country have 2-pins. You can buy adaptors in Dubai but it’s useful to be aware of this if you have adapters already. Prescriptions for any medications - Keep these with you in case you are carrying controlled substances. Jumpers/jacket - Although it is in the desert believe it or not it can rain in Dubai. CDs / DVDs / Computer games - you can bring these items as long as there is no nudity on the covers. (pornography is banned in the UAE) ’The Omen’ and ‘The Exorcist’ films are banned in Dubai as they offend religious morals. Other than these you can bring all others with you. Mobile phones - Sim cards can be bought at Etisalat for under 200AED. Bear in mind that a phone purchased abroad may need to be chipped in order to work with a Dubai sim card. If you intend to bring your mobile with you contact your network provider to find out if this needs to be done (it is a lot easier to do it from your home country than it is when you are living here!) |
